Rogers Ranch and NISD

Consider yourselves LUCKY!!!  We live in a great city.  It has many names.  We’re known to some as “The Alamo City.”  There are also others that refer to San Antonio as “The River City.”  If you happen to hang out with statisticians, they know us as “The 7th Largest City” in the United States boasting almost 1.5 million friendly Texans.  Of course, I like to refer to my city as “The Home of The-5-Time-NBA-World-Championship-Spurs.”

Yes, we are a lucky bunch, but did you also know that inside this wonderful city of ours lies a hidden gem known as “The Destination District?”  I recently took the liberty to contact Barry Perez, Executive Director of Communications for the Northside Independent School District (NISD), in an effort to begin my coverage of the two school districts that just so happen to straddle the Roger’s Ranch / Stone Oak areas.

I decided to press my luck with Barry and tried to get him on the horn to no avail.  I followed up my phone call with an email merely asking him to give me details about NISD that are not readily available, to which he DID respond.  To my surprise, Barry was quick to answer my email and provided me with some good soup:

    • Almost 50 percent of all single-family homes built in Bexar County are in NISD, thus the nickname “The Destination District.”
    • NISD is experiencing the fastest growth in the far, northwest section of Bexar County
    • NISD offers five high school magnet programs:  Business Careers, Communications Arts, and Health Careers high schools, Construction Careers Academy, and the Jay Science and Engineering Academy
    • For 8 straight years, NISD has had a Region 20 Teacher of the Year, five of whom were finalists for Texas Teacher of the Year
    • For the 2017-2018 school year, NISD will open two new campuses:  John Marshall Harlan High School (NISD’s 11th comprehensive high school) and Nathan Kallison Elementary School
    • In 2016-2017, NISD opened a new, state-of-the-art Sport Gym that will host district athletic events, but also other large events for the district.  The facility is located at 8400 North Loop 1604 West in the Farris Athletic Complex.
    • NISD also opened 2 new elementary campuses:  Bennie Cole and Randall Fields elementary schools

As NISD relates to the Roger’s Ranch area you will find:

    1. Patricia J. Blattman Elementary
    2. Huebner Elementary
    3. Rawlinson Middle School
    4. Hobby Middle School
    5. Clark High School

It’s not hard to see how much the city has grown in this part of town, and will continue to grow in the foreseeable future.  Get in while you can, and if it is in your destiny, then you’ll certainly consider “The Destination District.”
